Is she a siren or a myth?
Parthenope is a woman named after her city. In Greek mythology, Parthenope was a siren who committed suicide after failing to seduce Odysseus. Her body was washed ashore by the tide to where Castel dell’Ovo is now, and for this she gave her name to the city that later became Naples, Naples. In the film, Parthenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples.
The beauty of life in the insignificance
Heat Writer Peter Gregson Cast Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipsak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Kluda. I was a little disappointed with his last film, È STATA LA MANO DI DIO, where PARTHENOPE reminded me of what Sorrentino’s films were so touching. Everything is beautiful, from the city of Naples and its pure waters to the still unknown goddess Celeste da Porta. Add to that Fellini-like filming and Lele Marchitelli’s wonderful jazz soundtrack: you get perfection.
In the world as it is
You would think she was making another GRANDE BELLEZZA, but it’s not. Sorrentino manages to surprise us once again with a new way of dealing with the same subject in the end. The film asks questions without answering them, as if to tell us to stop looking for answers and start seeing the beauty. As a result, the viewer leaves the theater not with answers, but with an interesting attitude towards life and ultimately death.
Oh, and I forgot, the film stars Gary Oldman
Despite his limited screen time, he manages to pull off a great performance. Then he pulls away, asking us to enjoy the film he created for us (by being in his performance) and go see it. So I know not everyone will like it – some scenes are very strange I must admit – but as far as I’m concerned, this film gave me everything I expected (and didn’t) when I went to the theater. .
